net if needed, and the group discussion, please answer the following questions:

Question 1: What is the Volcanic Explosivity Index (VEI)? (0.6 points)

scale that describes the size of explosive volcanic eruptions based on magnitude and intensity.

Question 2: If we assume there are no volcanoes on the Earth's surface, what would be the condition of the Earth's surface and interior? (0.6 points)

A), pressure from the Earth would build up, leading to more earthquakes as this

pressure seeks release.

B) The rock cycle would be impacted if there were no

volcanoes that bring magma to the surface and result a new

igneous rock.

C), this would change the topography and would reduce soil

fertility in regions that get benefits from volcanic minerals.

Question 3: Do you agree with the hypothesis that "the movement of tectonic plates is the main cause of earthquakes and volcanoes on Earth"? What is your evidence for this? (0. points) Earthquakes and volcanoes are the short-term results of this tectonic movement. The long- term result of plate tectonics is the movement of entire continents over millions of years. Question 4: If you know that the Red Sea lies between the Arabian and African plates, which are continuously moving apart from each other at a rate of 1 cm per year, what will be the situation of the Red Sea after 100 million years? (0.6 points)
