DEFINING A FALL IN THE ELDERLY ADULTS An event results in a person resting on the ground or floor with or without injury occurring.

ENVIRONMENTAL CAUSES ➢ Wet Floors ➢ Misuse of mobility devices ➢ Cluttered environment ➢ Loose carpets ➢ Lack of safety equipment in the home (grab bars, lifts).

WHY IS FALL PREVENTION IMPORTANT? ➢ Falls in the elderly can be fatal. ➢ Falls cause terrible injuries in elderly adults, like broken hips or head trauma. ➢ Older adults have an increased risk of falls. ➢ Falls are preventable.
