Firewall
Firewall is a computer element that attempts to block unauthorized users’ access to a private
network connected to an internet. In order to obstruct the arrival of those that do not meet
certain security requirements, the firewalls are therefore based on inspecting each of the
messages that reach and exit the network, thus providing free access to controlled
communications. We will use a very clear metaphor to explain this notion: a firewall is a
door to a house for a computer network.
This door stops unidentified people from accessing our home in the same way as a firewall
prohibits unauthorized user from entering a private network. The firewall function is quite
critical, as a computer or a computer network could be attacked and compromised very
often if not for it. To strengthen the security mechanism and avoid the entry and installation
of malicious code, some antivirus companies also provide additional firewall protection.
