Folk Dances

are the indigenous dances of any

specific “folk” or the common

people

are traditional customary or

recreational dance forms of a

given country w/c have evolved

naturally and were handed down

across generations

Folk dances are traditional dances found in

a certain country

National dances are folk dances but have a

national scope. They are popular throughout

a given country

examples: Carinosa, Curacha and Pandango

Ethnic dances are performed in primitive

tribes and have retained their close kinship

with religious ritual and community custom

 Dance that depict the means of livelihood of Filipino people.

 performed as part of the rituals and ceremonies of a certain tribe or group of people

 Dance that serve as ritual as one passes to a different stage in life a.Courtship dance b.Wedding dance c. Funeral dance

B. Nature

  1. Occupational dances- depicts actions of labour or of a specific occupation.
  2. Religious ceremonial dances – dances with religious vows and ceremonies.
  3. Comic dances – depicts funny movements intended for entertainment.
  4. Game dances – done with play element.

  1. Wedding dances – performed during wedding feast.
  2. Courtship dances – depict the act of courtship or dances with love themes.
  3. Festival dances – suitable for special occasions or any social gatherings.
  4. War dances – show imagery of combat or duel.

D. Formation

  1. Square or quadrille
  2. Long formation
  3. Set – consist of two or more pairs as a unit facing each other or standing side by side.

E. Special classification – group dances with special distinctive features
