The liberalisation of international trade and the rapid
development of technology have turned our planet into a single
space. This phenomenon is called globalization and scientists
foretell that one of its various effects is the establishment of a
global language that everyone will speak. Although this
possible future may seem advantageous at first sight, there are
numerous downsides as well.
Firstly, a universal language would clearly resolve the huge
range of communication problems that are caused by language
diversity. To be more precise, this phenomenon will facilitate
cooperation between divergent states or people from different
origins, since their cultural differences will be greatly
undermined. Moreover, actions such as international travelling
and business will be lubricated, as misunderstandings because
of lack of communication will be prevented. As a result, people
will not only become familiar with different cultures and learn
about different viewpoints in life, but also, economic growth is
eminent.
However, If everyone spoke the same language, then
cultural diversity may be lost. In fact, each language provides a
unique way of thinking and presents a deferent standpoint in
life, because it depicts the culture it derived from and
expresses its people’s virtues and costumes. For this reason,
should the various languages of the world merge into one, the
cultural heritage and variety would be significantly impaired.
Hence, the individual’s creativity and imagination would be
greatly limited, which may result in the massification of people
and their alienation.
In conclusion, even though the establishment of a global
language may benefit international communication and
activities, it may limit the divergence of our planet. Personally,
provided the fact that the cultural diversity of our plant is
profoundly affected, I consider the particular future as a
positive development, owing to the prospect of financial
development and the national cooperation.
