GLOBALIZATION
by: Manfred Steger
Mr. Steger is a professor of political science at the University of
Hawai'i-Manoa and the Dean of Social Sciences' Senior Advisor on
International Education and Globalization. Globalization: A Very Short
Introduction is his most popular book. According to him, globalization refers
to the expansion and intensification of social relations and consciousness
across world-time and world-space. It is a multi-dimensional phenomenon
involving economics, politics, culture, ideology, environment, and
technology. Globalization can be described in various of ways, but in my
own interpretation of Steger's work, it is the process of a business, service,
or technology growing, developing, and expanding globally. It is the
international expansion of numerous firms into worldwide marketplaces.
Globalization has evolved at a breathtaking pace in the
previous few decades, resulting in economic, social, political, and cultural
integration all over the world due to advances in technology,
telecommunications, transportation, and among other things. Globalization
has both advantages and disadvantages, nonetheless, I believe that for the
most part, it has been beneficial to the world and its people.
Globalization has had a significant positive impact on global
economies in a variety of ways. Unbelievable advances in science and
technology have provided organizations with incredible opportunities to
expand across geographical boundaries. Companies have experienced
tremendous economic growth as a result of globalization. They were more
productive, resulting in a more competitive society. Successful developed-
country companies are creating foreign branches to take advantage of
lower-cost manpower than in their own countries. The development of
McDonald's restaurants around the world is the most common and clear
example of globalization. Because of its efficient approach of adapting the
culture of different countries in its menus to fit local tastes, it became so
popular in the global marketplaces. We can refer to it as
internationalization, which is a great combination of globalization and

Globalization: A Very Short Introduction is his most popular book. According to him, globalization refers to the expansion and intensification of social relations and consciousness across world-time and world-space. Globalization has both advantages and disadvantages, nonetheless, I believe that for the most part, it has been beneficial to the world and its people. Globalization has had a significant positive impact on global economies in a variety of ways. Unbelievable advances in science and technology have provided organizations with incredible opportunities to expand across geographical boundaries. Companies have experienced tremendous economic growth as a result of globalization. They were more productive, resulting in a more competitive society. Successful developed- country companies are creating foreign branches to take advantage of lower-cost manpower than in their own countries. The development of McDonald's restaurants around the world is the most common and clear example of globalization. Because of its efficient approach of adapting the culture of different countries in its menus to fit local tastes, it became so popular in the global marketplaces. We can refer to it as internationalization, which is a great combination of globalization and

localization. They have become more efficient, resulting in a more competitive environment where quality of products, services, and other factors have resulted in growth. Such business activities provide employment to individuals in developing or poor countries allowing them to progress. Along with the great benefits of globalization, there are also negative aspects to consider. Globalization has had a significant negative impact on the environment, resulting in concerns such as water pollution, deforestation, air pollution, soil pollution, water contamination, climate change, biodiversity loss, and so on. All of the world's ever-increasing environmental problems must be addressed urgently by international efforts, or life on the planet would perish one day. To prevent destruction of the environment, there is a need for the globalization of environmentally friendly technologies as well as a high degree of environmental consciousness among the wider populace. Companies must develop greener technology that can replace the current state of the environment in order to deal with the negative impacts of globalization. Globalization, on the other hand, has greatly aided in the conservation of the environment by improving various resources (reducing negative environmental consequences such as hybrid automobiles that use less gasoline) and promoting education. The topic of globalization can be very difficult and controversial to discuss since it brings both disadvantages and advantages. Are the benefits, however, greater than the drawbacks? It's difficult to tell, but I believe it has, for the most part, been helpful to the world and people at this time. It's also difficult to deny that globalization has given people all across the world more opportunities. It has had a significant impact on people's status and mode of living in society. It greatly benefits developing countries by providing a variety of developmental possibilities. To sum it up, globalization has had a beneficial and detrimental impact on tradition, culture, politics, economic development, lifestyle, and prosperity, among other things. If we embrace it positively, it has the potential to eliminate regional diversity and establish a globally homogenized culture. It is supported by information technology and shows extensive connection and integration among enterprises, corporations, governments, and individuals from various countries.
