ITEC 4830 Graphics Design - Test 2: Fireworks Quiz, Exams of Information Technology

A test for students enrolled in itec 4830 graphics design course. The quiz covers various topics related to adobe fireworks, including the differences between bitmap images and vector objects, using tools to create shapes and modify objects, and working with layers and effects. The quiz consists of multiple-choice, true/false, and short-answer questions, and students are expected to answer specific tasks in fireworks without writing lengthy essays.

ITEC 4830 Graphics Design Test 2
This quiz covers the Fireworks text, and is open book.
Remember, many of the questions ask you to describe how to perform a specific
task in Fireworks, please try to be specific without writing an essay.
Multiple-choice questions should be answered in the space provided to the left of
the question.
Multiple-choice and T-F questions are worth 2.5 point each, and short-answer
questions are worth 5 points each.
You have one class to finish this test and there is no time extension.
Good luck!!
1. What are the differences between Bitmap Images and Vector Objects?
Answer: Bitmaps are images that are composed of an array of pixels. Thus an image can
be considered as a table consisting of rows and columns. For each intersection of a row
and a column, it is a pixel in the image and it is assigned a scalar integer (gray-scale
image) or a vector of three integers (color image). As with paint on a canvas, you can’t
just remove a mistake – you need to erase or “paint” over the mistake, i.e., change the
integer values of the pixels. To increase or reduce the size of an image, certain algorithms
are required to insert or remove the image pixels while preserving a smooth color change.
Vector objects are images composed of mathematical lines and therefore can be moved
and reshaped with no resolution loss.
2. _____ T or F: Onion skinning is the process of defining beginning and ending frames
and then creating images in between to give the appearance that the first frame slowly
changes to the last frame.
Answer: F
3. Which tool is used to draw a circle? How to draw it with a fixed center point in a
canvas?
Answer: Ellipse tool. After select the Ellipse tool on the Tools panel, position the cursor
where the center point locates on the canvas. Hold down Alt to draw a circle from the
center; then, as you are dragging, add Shift to constrain the shape to a circle.
4. _____ T or F: When creating a series of straight-path segments while working with
the Polygon Lasso tool, you drag the cursor from one anchor point to the next.
Answer: F
5. _____ T or F: The Clone operation is the same as performing the Copy and Paste
commands.
Answer: T

  5. _____ T or F: The Clone operation is the same as performing the Copy and Paste commands. Answer: T
  1. List and briefly describe three object transformation tools available in the Modify Menu  Transform command. Answer: Scale, Skew, Distort
  2. _____ T or F: When combining Vector Objects, the Intersect command requires a minimum of three overlapping objects. Answer: F
  3. _____ When skewing an object, you can rotate the object with respect to which of the handle? a. Any handle on the object edges b. Any corner handle on the object edges, which is an intersection of two edges c. Any middle handle on the object edges d. The handle not on the object edges Answer: d
  4. Describe the difference between a white fill and a fill of None when applying the fills to one object which has been layered over another object. Answer: A white fill on an object that is layered over another object will hide the overlapping area of the second object. A fill of None basically makes the first object to be transparent, thus it will not hide the second object.
  5. _____ When changing the edges of a fill, this type of edge blends the foreground and background pixels on the edges. a. soft b. anti-alias c. feather d. blur Answer: b
  6. When you create a new document, by default what layers will you get? What are their uses? Answer: Web Layer and Layer 1. Layer 1 is where all your objects and images are placed initially. If you don’t create any other layer, all the objects in your document will be stacked in this layer. The Web Layer is the top layer by default and cannot be removed. It is used to store the hotspots and slices in your page.
  7. _____ T or F: You cannot apply both an Inner Bevel effect and a Drop Shadow effect to an object. Answer: F
  8. _____ T or F: Locking a layer prevents you accidentally to move or change objects in the layer, but you are still able to delete or add objects to the layer.
  1. When we were creating the pop-up menu, the pop-up menu editor allows us to define the pop-up. What are the four tabs in the editor, and briefly describe one of the features each tab allows us to define. Answer: The four tabs are: Content, Appearance, Advanced and Position. Content tab enable you to type the menu items and submenus. Appearance tab enable you to change the font style and size for the menus. Advanced tab adjust the look of the text in the menu, such as cell spacing and padding, border color and width, etc. Position tab is used to control the pop up positions of the menu and submenus relative to the original text.
  2. _____ T or F: When working with the single layer editing, you can only work with the objects in the selected layer and you can’t switch to any other layers unless you turn off the single layer editing. Answer: F
  3. _____ When we combine two or more objects together to be one object that cannot be separated back, which command should be used: a. Group b. Merge c. Join d. Union Answer: d
  4. Given two vector objects as shown in the left figure, which command should we use to obtain the results in the right figure: a. Intersect b. Punch c. Split d. Crop Answer: b
  5. You’ve chosen to add a gradient fill to the object in your window. Describe the tools you would use to change the appearance of that gradient fill. Answer: see page 133-
  6. _____ Which of the following is not a correct button state in Fireworks: a. Click b. Up c. Over d. OverWhileDown Answer: a
  7. Describe the concept of disjointed rollover and the process to create it. Answer: see page 176-
