All problems are from the 7th edition of Ross.
Hand in the following problems:
1. Problems from Chapter 6: 51, 54 a) (pages 318-319)
2. Problems from Chapter 7: 5, 6, 7b, 9a, 12 b) (pages 408-409)
3. Theoretical Exercise from Chapter 7: 1 (pages 418)
Practice problems from Chapter 6 (you do not need to hand these in!):
Problems: 53, 55, 58
Theoretical Exercises: 17, 33
Practice problems from Chapter 7 (you do not need to hand these in!):
Problems: 3, 4, 11, 21
Theoretical Exercises: 12, 13
You may also work on any of the other problems in Chapters 6 and 7
Bonus problem:
Cards are drawn one by one (without replacement) from a pack of 52 cards until at least
one card of every suit has been drawn. Find the expected number of cards drawn. Solve
the problem also in the case when the drawings are with replacement.
Disclaimer: It is easy to find the solutions to (some of) these questions. (E.g. the internet,
your fellow classmates .. . ) However, do NOT consult any of these solutions when working on
this assignment or you will learn nothing from it and your chance of passing the course will
be greatly diminished. If it becomes apparent to the grader that your solution is copied from
existing solutions, you will be assigned a grade of zero for lack of originality.
