Understanding Functions & Relations: Definitions, Pairs, Tables, Mapping, & Graphs, Lecture notes of Calculus

Definitions and explanations of functions and relations, with examples using ordered pairs, tables, mapping diagrams, and graphs. It covers the concept of a function as a relation where each input has only one output, and discusses how to determine if sets of ordered pairs or tables are functions.

Functions vs. Relations
EQ: How do I define a function?
MCC9-12.F.IF.1 Understand that a function from one set (called the domain) to
another set (called the range) assigns to each element of the domain exactly one
element of the range. If f is a function and x is an element of its domain, then f(x)
denotes the output of f corresponding to the input x. The graph of f is the graph
of the equation y = f(x).

Definitions
Relation - a set of associated inputs and
outputs.
Function - a relation where each input has only
one output.
Domain - all of the inputs or x-values
Range - all of the outputs or y-values
