I N T R O D U C T I O N The first paragraph of your essay should outline the topic, provide background information necessary to understand your argument, outline the evidence you will present and states your thesis. Start with a strong sentence. It’s the first sentence of your essay, and therefore it has to curious enough to “tempt the reader”. This part of the introduction should be both exciting and directly related to the topic. Introduce the argument of your paper. A well- constructed introductory paragraph immediately captures a reader’s interest and gives appropriate background information about the paper’s topic. B O D Y A typical argumentative essay comprises three or more paragraphs that explain the reasons why you support your thesis. Each body paragraph should cover a different idea or piece of evidence and contain a topic sentence that clearly and concisely explains why the reader should agree with your position. The body of your informative essay should develop on the opinions that were presented in your introduction. Body paragraphs consist of distinct opinions that develop or support the essay. Each paragraph should feature a different opinion to back your main thesis statement. The body of a persuasive essay holds all the main points you as the writer want to argue. It’s best to separate your points by paragraphs; so, if you have three main arguments, you should have at least three body paragraphs explaining them in detail. When you argue your points in the paragraph, you must make sure to explain why these reasons support your thesis. C O N C L U S I O N It restates your thesis and summarizes all of the arguments made in your body paragraphs. Rather than introducing new facts or more arguments, a good conclusion will appeal to a reader’s emotions. Conclusions should be exact and consistent. A short summary signifying the importance of the topic is always a good way to end. The main rule you should follow is that the closing part of the essay should cover the justification of how the reader can benefit from the conclusions. The conclusion of a persuasive essay is a summary of all the points mentioned earlier that wraps up the essay and often includes a catchy ending to drive the point home. TASK 5.
