The essential difference between distillationand absorption is ‘partial vaporization’ of theliquid.q

-^

The ratio of the liquid to the gas flowrate isconsiderably greater in absorption.

esorption (or stripping) is the removal of a component from a liquid stream via vaporizationand uptake by an insoluble gas stream. †^

Thus, absorption and stripping are opposite unitoperations, and are often used together as a cycle. †^

Both absorption and stripping can be operated asequilibrium stage processes using trayed columnsor, more commonly, using packed columns.
