Design is a process of :

Purpose + Visual + Creation

Purpose Visual Creation

Visual language

Is the

basis of

design

creation

Elements of design These elements together determine the ultimate appearance and contents of a design. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVrh 3frrC

Conceptual elements

Visual elements

When conceptual elements

becomes visible

 Shape: anything seen  Size: bigness and smallness  Color: distinguish the shapes  Texture: surface characteristics of a shape.

Relational elements These elements governs placement & interrelationship of the shapes  Direction: depends on how it is related to the observer, to the frame that contains it or to other shapes near by.  Position: depends on the shape relation to the frame.  Space: shapes of any size occupies space.  Gravity: the sense is not visual its psychological.

Practical elements

Underlie the content and extension of

a design.

 Representation: when the shape is derived from the nature or a man-made world.  Meaning: when the design conveys a message.  Sagragada Familia Basilica

The frame of Reference  All the previous elements exist within a boundary called Frame of Reference.  It marks the outer limits of a design , defines an area within which the created elements all work together.

Form and Structure The way form is created, constructed and organized along with other forms is governed by a term called “ Structure” which is involved mainly with the relational elements.
