“Earth Science is an integrated study of theEarth'shistory, composition, and structure, its atmosphere and oceans, and its environment in space” Billions year ago, the solar system and the Earth was created and Science has a big part for us to know that information explaining how and why the Earth and the solar system created and us humans and living things too. Science is the greatest collective endeavor. It contributes to ensuring a longer and healthier life. Science is a process of investigation that leads to producing knowledge, based on observations and creating explanations based on the observation. Science plays a big role in our lives. The main goal of science is to identify the patterns in nature and then use those to make predictions and give facts. The development of new scientific knowledge involves some basic process. To determine on what is happening scientist collects data and information through observations and measurements. The data collected is used to answer well-define questions. These data are necessary to scientist for the development of hypothesis and theories. Once facts are gathered and the principles are being developed, experts try to explain how or why things happened through observations. Before hypothesis becomes part of a scientific knowledge, it must repeatedly pass the testing and analysis and when the hypothesis passed the testing and analysis, it may be elevated to the status of a scientific theory. Many sciences are used to study and learn about the earth; but, the four basic areas of Earth Science are Geology, Oceanology, Meteorology, and Astronomy. Geology is primary Earth Science, it is the study of the Earth. It deals with compositions of Earth materials, Earth process and Earth structures. It is also have to do with the organisms of the planet and how the planet is changed overtime. Geology is divided into two broad areas which is the historical geology which aims to understand the Earth through its 4.6 billion year history, while physical geology seeks to understand the process beneath and upon the Earth’s surface. The Earth is called the blue planet because 70% of its surface is covered with water. If we want to know what and understand this waters, then we must study oceanography or the Science of oceans. Oceanography merges with chemistry, physics, geology and biology all into one. It also study about the composition and movement of seawater, coastal processes, sea floor topography and marine life. Earth science is also Meteorology, it is the science of the atmosphere. Like oceanography, meteorology associates with different Earth sciences and it is an integrated study of thin layer of air that is surrounding the earth. Studying space beyond the Earth is important that’s why we have Astronomy, the science of the universe. Earth is related to all other objects in space, Astronomy is useful for exploring the origins of Earth. Our solar system is formed from a vast, rotating cloud of gas and dust it is called the solar nebula. Each part of the nebula exerted a gravitational force that resulted on make the nebula
contract. The nebula then heated, it began to spin, and it flatten and become a disk and that disk is where planets began to compose. Our environment is not just only composed of rocks, water and air. It is characterized by synergy as all elements come to contact with each other. Everything on Earth’s system can be placed into one of four major subsystems. These subsystems are called the spheres. Earth is a dynamic body with many separate but interacting parts or spheres. Water more than anything makes the Earth unique, the hydrosphere is a dynamic mass of water. It contains all the solid, liquid and gaseous water of the planet it includes the streams, lakes, glaciers, steam, and the underground water. Earth is surrounded by a very-thin and life-giving gaseous envelop called the atmosphere. The atmosphere contains all the air in the Earth’s system, it provides the air we breathe and protects us from the sun’s radiation. All lives on earth it is contain in the biosphere. Within the biosphere, living things form ecological communities based on the physical surroundings of an area. Last but on the least is the geosphere. Beneath the atmosphere and the ocean is solid earth is geosphere. It extends from the surface to the center of the planet, by examining surfacing features, we can acquire clues to the dynamic processes that have shaped our planet. Earth’s interior is layered, consisting of the crust, mantle and the core (outer and inner). All of the spheres are separate but it is interacting, each are related to the others to produce complex and interacting whole that we call the Earth system. To sum it up, nearly everything that we do is connected to Earth science: to its land, oceans, atmosphere, plants, and animals. The food we eat, the water we drink, our homes, the clothes we wear, the energy we use, and the air we breathe are all grown in, taken from, surround, or move through the planet. Our lives and community depends upon how we understand and manage our planet because Earth’s processes affect us all. Earth science teaches us on how to think globally and to act locally. That’s why Earth science is important in our life.
