Lab 1: Microscopy
Objective:
The purpose of the lab was to learn the parts and functions of a Brightfield Microscope through the
observation of different specimens under multiple magnifications.
Procedure:
1. Pick up the microscope by the arm while supporting the base.
2. Take off the cover and plug in the Motic Brightfield Microscope and power it on. Make sure to
adjust the ocular lens.
3. Place a slide on the stage and secure it with the stage clip.
4. Start with the 4X objective lens, the lowest objective magnification, providing the widest field of
vision.
5. Move the stage up using the coarse adjustment knob to bring the specimen into the field of view.
Bring the specimen to focus using the fine adjustment knob.
6. Rotate the nosepiece to switch to the 10X and 40X objective, moving the stage accordingly.
Refocus using the fine focus knob.
7. Once finished with the 100X objective, clean the lens with lens cleaner and lens paper.
8. Rotate the 4X objective lens back to its original position and lower the stage using the coarse
adjustment knob.
9. Unplug the microscope, replace the cover and place it in the storage cabinet.
