Introduction After taking ECE 210, we found that the laboratory experiments were somewhat confusing and time consuming in terms of having to assemble circuits and read measurements from the oscilloscope. We believe the intention of the ECE 210 laboratory is to teach basic signal concepts. This can be easier to accomplish by using LabVIEW simulation software, rather than having students use physical circuitry. Project Goals/Intended Functions By the completion of this semester, the project will have: All five of the original laboratory experiments for ECE 210 simulated in LabVIEW Mathematically/Theoretically accurate simulations Graphical user interfaces for project experiments: o Students will be able to change values for parameters and see changes in output in real time. o Circuits will be pre-wired with appropriate transfer functions implemented. Students will not be able to dynamically rewire circuits. Documentation: o Student tutorials on how to use the LabVIEW simulator with ECE 210 laboratory experiments. o Documentation will be such that the project may be maintained and modified in the future by students and staff. Focus on the possibility that ECE 210 laboratory experiments may be done over the internet using LabVIEW simulations. Hardware element for testing purposes only o Build bandpass filter from laboratory experiment 4 o Use LabVIEW data acquisition to sample and process output
Block Diagram Components Lab Tutorial o Contains Pre-lab and Post-lab questions, as well as procedures and block diagrams for the main lab o It should contain all the information students need to complete the lab Pre-lab Analysis Questions o Computational and conceptual questions to be completed before the main lab procedures in order to help students have a better understanding of the lab o Answers are to be recorded in the Lab Recording Worksheet Main Laboratory o Step by step procedures students should follow to complete the ECE 210 labs in LabVIEW o All the previous hardware setups of the lab will be available in equivalent software version in LabVIEW o The signals plots, measurements, and answers to analysis questions should be recorded in the Lab Recording Worksheet Post-Lab Analysis/Conclusions o Post-lab questions students should answer after the completion of the main lab to help them understand the concepts discussed. o Answers are to be recorded in the Lab Recording Worksheet o Any conclusions students drew from the lab are also to be recorded in the Lab Recording Worksheet Lab Recording Worksheet o Contains answer to Pre-lab, Post-lab, and main lab questions o Contains recordings of measurements and plots o Can include any other observation and conclusions made during the lab LabVIEW Interface o All the previous hardware setups are simulated in the LabVIEW software, including waveform generation, signal processing, etc. o LabVIEW simulations will also include extra information about the components used in the lab and the processes involved. Performance Specifications The experiments will be presented in a clear and intuitive manner. The simulation models will be mathematically accurate. The project will meet the stated goals to the satisfaction of Professor David Munson.
