What is history?
-History is the study of the past
-About assessing change/continuity over time
-Analyze sources about the past
oPrimary sources
First-hand account from the past
Some kind of historical document
Ex. an interview with someone who lived through an
experience (oral history), an autobiography/memoir, letters,
historical newspapers, photographs, recorded speeches, music,
etc.
Primary sources have perspective
oSecondary sources
A source written about the past, but does not come to us from
the past
Ex. a textbook, a thesis, documentaries, scholarly articles
Secondary sources provide context & multiple perspectives
-Constructing narratives or stories about change or continuity in the past
using sources
