Courtni Soileau EDTC 100-H December 4, 2007 Autobiography Teachers are people who enjoy teaching children new ideas and concepts that could help them in their future. I would love to help children accomplish their goals and see them succeed in life. I believe that my past accomplishments and experiences would help me to be a wonderful teacher. My name is Courtni Soileau, and I am 19 years old. I attended school in Iowa and graduated from Iowa High School. I am pursuing a career in education with a concentration in early childhood. I hope that I can accomplish my goals and make a difference in children’s lives for the better through education. I was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana and was raised in LeBleu Settlement, Louisiana. My parents are from Lake Charles and have been married for 28 years. I have two older brothers, who were both raised and still currently living in LeBleu Settlement. All my life I’ve played sports and in high school I played basketball, volleyball, and softball. I still love to play softball and volleyball when I get the chance. I haven’t been to many other states in the U.S., and I have never traveled outside of the United States. I have traveled to Pennsylvania and Arkansas when I was younger. There are two states that I have visited many times and will continue to visit throughout my life and those states are Florida and Texas. I’m the type of person who likes to stay busy, so I have hobbies that I enjoy. I really enjoy playing volleyball in a swimming pool and swimming. Another hobby of mine is fishing
with my family and riding jet skies, especially at Toledo Bend. I also enjoy reading a good book every now and then. There are some beliefs concerning life-long learner advocate for change. One belief for change is that teachers should start to care if a child succeeds or not. Teachers should try their best to help struggling students, but also while not abandoning other students. It would be easier on teacher if all parents cared about their child’s education. So, that could be another change that would help life-long learner. I also believe that if the parents care, then the child tends to care more. Another belief that would help is the atmosphere of the classroom and the attitude of the teacher. I believe that if the classroom makes learning look fun, then students would enjoy learning new things. I know when I enter a classroom that doesn’t have anything on the walls or boards, I find it uninteresting. So, there are many different beliefs for life-long learners advocate for change, just like in the work field. I have had work and education experience that has influenced my life. My work experience has been with just one company. While I was in high school I worked for an abstract company and mainly worked in the office during the summer. It was a good experience to work with people older than me. Once I entered college I went back to work for them, but this time I do research for titles and mortgages. There were many rules and laws that I had to learn and am still learning more detailed rules. So far I have had fourteen years of education experience and now it continues in college. I started my education in pre-kindergarten and went through school in Iowa. I finished my mandatory schooling at Iowa High School. Through my education experience I have had really good teachers, tough teachers, and easy teachers. Through these different experiences I have
One time a Chinese woman approached me and asked for directions to a certain store. It was difficult to understand her, but she also had a hard time understanding me. There was one experience that I will always remember and learned many interesting thing from it. I was able to get to know a girl from Ireland; she stayed here for about two months. We talked about how she lived and what their schools were like. She explained to me how their laws work, and she asked my question about our laws. The ways we decide to deal with crimes are different from how they deal with crimes. There wasn’t a lot of difference in the kind of activities that we enjoy, but there are different laws. That recent experience let me realize that I live in a wonderful country and appreciate my culture. In the end, I have had wonderful achievements in school and great experiences with other cultures. A way to have academic and other achievements is by setting short and long term goals. So in order for me to succeed in college and my future career I needed to set goals. There are some short term goals that I would like to achieve. For example, I want to pass all my classes with As and Bs and attend class on a daily basis. Also, an important goal for me is to study and finish assignments without procrastination. Another short term goal would be to meet deadlines on future requirements for the education program. Along with short term goals, I also have long term goals. One long term goal is for me to graduate from McNeese in early childhood education. I would also like to get my masters in grades one through five as soon as I finish my bachelors degree. Another goal would be for me to help and understand the children that I would teach. I would also like to have a positive impact on the students that I would teach, because I had some teachers that did the same for me. Last, another long term goal would be to enjoy my job and teach for
many years. When you set goals it helps you to make accomplishments and appreciate those accomplishments. Since I can remember I have always wanted to be a teacher, but now that I am in college I have different reasons. I want to help children and try to make a positive impact in their life through education. In the past, I have had teachers that loved to see me do well and still today when they find out I’m going for education, they get excited and encourage me to do my best. I want children to remember me many years later like I remember some of my teachers. Also, I want to see children succeed in school in many ways like I did when I was a child. Not only when they are young, but also carry their success through high school and into college like I was able to. Also, I feel great when I am able to help children with school work and watch them improve in a subject. For example, when I tutored my little cousin in math one year. In the end, I believe that my academic and other achievements helped me to realize that I want to help other children make the best of their education experience.
