Test #3 Review
What material will be covered on this exam?
Chapter 7.1, 7.2 and Chapter 8 will be covered on the exam.
How should I study for this exam?
Read the chapters and slides
Re-do the assigned homework and look at solutions
Rework the review problems I did in class
Review your lab exercise and handouts
Work through some old exams
Make a formula/notes sheet to bring with you. I suggest one side of it as
Hypothesis testing flow chart – can write corresponding confidence interval
formulae on it.
What can I bring with me to the exam?
8.5 x 11 notes sheet with anything you want on it (except no photocopies of
anything!)
Gray 8.5 x 11 scantron
Calculator
Z-table and T-table will be provided
Pencil and Erasers
Picture ID

What material will be covered on this exam? Chapter 7.1, 7.2 and Chapter 8 will be covered on the exam. How should I study for this exam?  Read the chapters and slides  Re-do the assigned homework and look at solutions  Rework the review problems I did in class  Review your lab exercise and handouts  Work through some old exams  Make a formula/notes sheet to bring with you. I suggest one side of it as Hypothesis testing flow chart – can write corresponding confidence interval formulae on it. What can I bring with me to the exam?  8.5 x 11 notes sheet with anything you want on it (except no photocopies of anything!)  Gray 8.5 x 11 scantron  Calculator  Z-table and T-table will be provided  Pencil and Erasers  Picture ID

Chapter 7:  One sample t-statistic and its degrees of freedom  When to use one sample t-statistic  Know how to read t-table – how it is different from z-table, how to find probabilities (>, <, not =)  Confidence Interval for 1 sample t  Hypothesis testing for 1 sample t  Matched pairs t (paired t)  When to use matched pairs  Confidence interval for matched pairs  Hypothesis testing for matched pairs  Know that matched pairs is more powerful than a 2 sample t-test  Two sample problems  Two sample z-statistic  When to use a two sample z-statistic  Two sample t-statistic and its degrees of freedom  When to use a two sample t  Confidence Interval for two sample t  Hypothesis testing for two sample t  Two sample pooled t-test (we use this when σ 1 =σ 2 )  Two sample pooled t Confidence Interval

What to Know for the Test 1-sample t- test 2-sample t- test pooled t- test 2-sample proportions Know when to do which test!!!! Also know for each:

  1. H 0 and Ha
  2. Type I and Type II errors
  3. necessary assumptions (write them on the flowchart)
  4. range of the p- value for t- tests
  5. given p- value, what’s the conclusion in the words of the problem
  6. given 3 CI’s, what’s the range of the p- value General info:
  7. add CI formulas to the flowchart
  8. interpretation of CI’s
  9. power and what affects it
  10. know which df’s for 1-sample t- tests and df’s for the 2-sample t- test
  11. difference and similarities of the Z and t curves
  12. why we use a t and not a Z
  13. which t -test has the most power paired > pooled > 2-sample  1-sample
