Lesson 2: Developing the Whole Person
Developing oneself holistically may be the goal of everyone. However, there are times that we lack awareness of our
doings and actions that leads to misunderstanding with other particularly our parents. This can also potentially lead to
self-harm. Knowing oneself is quite challenging. Since you already obtain a clear understanding of yourself after doing
the activities in the previous lesson, then get ready to unfold the reality by removing the barriers toward understanding
your true self.
The term “teenager” was coined “teener” in 1920’s, it is also known as “teens” or “adolescent”. They are the last stage of
development before they become official adults. Their development includes rapid changes in brain and body often at
different rates and is a time for healthy exploration of identity and learning independence. This starts at ages 15-18 years
old.
Activity: PSYCHOSOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
On your notebook, List the stages of Erik Erikson’s psychosocial development and identify what crisis or issue is face in
teenager stage.
8 ASPECTS OF DEVELOPMENT
Aspect of development refers to areas in your life that when developed, may create positive changes. Each aspects builds
the others and is worth your investment of time, money and effort as it can may you grow yourself.
Physical Aspect
- It aims physical wellness and health
- Consist of physical health that needs physical activity, healthy foods, sleep and the ability to handle stress and
prevent sickness and disease.
- It describes yourself which includes your appearance, height, weight, quality of skin, hair and description of body
areas.
Intellectual Aspect
- It includes the ability to make decisions, solve problems, plan for action, create and innovate using available
information, thinking skills, attitudes and mindset. It means spending time on intellectual and creative activities
to expand your knowledge and create new possibilities.
- You are open to new ideas and willing to collaborate with others.
- It comes from your thirst for learning.
Emotional Aspect
- Refers to how well you manage your thoughts and feelings when meeting challenges in your life. Good emotional
health means you can manage up and downs of life.

  • Having the pleasure of your sense of sight, sense of smell, sense of touch, sense of taste, and sense of hearing. Social/ Relational Aspect
  • Our ability to interact with society in general and to develop authentic relationships with other people.
  • Refers to your genuine willingness to build supportive and trusting relationship in the community
  • Improving your relational well- being by increasing your awareness, mindfulness and interpersonal skills. Nutritional Aspect
  • Diets that are based on a series of agro-food products that are consumed in a certain way
  • It refers to how you nourish yourself? What foods do you like and dislike? Spiritual Aspect
  • Concerns with our search for connectedness, meaning, purpose, contribution and being fully alive.
  • It is more than being religious or practicing daily meditation, it refers to living a meaningful and purpose-driven life. It keeps you focused on thing that matter to you
  • Recognizing the difference between the eternal and the temporal. Contextual Aspect
  • Descriptors could be in the area of maintenance of your living environment.
  • Reaction to light, temperature, space, weather, color, sound and seasons and your impact to the environment ACTIVITY: ASPECT OF DEVELOPMENT Draw a circle on a short bond paper and divide the circle into 8 segments. In each segment, write your description of the different aspects of yourself. All eight aspect of development should be given equal attention in your development to be holistically developed.
