2.0 CONTENT

2.1 Local Area Network (LAN) setup for Enterprise Setting up networks to allow multiple computers and devices to communicate can be difficult because it can become tedious. Making a computer network run efficiently in an exceedingly business environment isn't identical to fixing a network reception or during a domestic setting. Complexity and security challenges pullulate with business network design. While the kind of network for your business is going to be determined by your requirements, the components of your network will remain constant. All your devices, applications, software, and most of your work are supported by or built upon your computer network. Therefore, planning, designing, purchasing hardware, and security of a network must be a high priority for your enterprise. You need ethernet cables to make a LAN for your setup and this may be the physical means of connection. Although we all know what a coax seems like, articulating what it does is also quite challenging. the sole because for explaining ethernet technology is to say that it is a technology that allows us to connect multiple devices and ultimately form a LAN. A modem, router, firewall, switch, LAN cable or patch cable, access point, repeater, and patch panel are the networking devices you will need to line up a network. the web connection is provided by your ISP via a cable (internet service provider). This cable links your router to your computer. The traffic passing over the cable, which subsequently connects to a switch, is filtered by the firewall. By connecting to the switch, all your network devices obtain access to the net.

2.2 Data Communication and Networking Equipment Networking devices are physical devices that are required for communication and interaction between hardware on a network. The common network devices are that the hub, switch, router, bridge, gateway, modem, repeater, and access point. We won’t head to every one of these devices, but we'll discuss networking equipment that's being employed for Local Area Network (LAN) within the enterprise environment. 2.2.1 Modem Modem converts or “modulates” an analog signal from a telephone or cable wire to a digital signal that a computer can recognize. This hardware component helps your computer and other devices to connect to the internet. The full-form Bell 103 modem, built by AT&T in 1963 and capable of transfer speeds of 300 bits per second, was the first commercially available modem. The modem was invented to send data over telephone wires so that news organisations could spread information between locations more quickly than they could with existing techniques. Eventually, during the Cold War, the modem was used to transmit intelligence, and as time passed, it became a commercially available technology that allowed people to access the Internet from their PCs at home. Modems have become obsolete as the use of fiber optic connections has grown. Fiber- optic connections have higher bandwidth and can carry it over longer distances. Because your office requires a fast data transfer rate, you're more likely to employ a fiber optic connection. In this instance, a modem will not be required to be part of your network. A modem's key advantage is that it allows you and your gadgets to connect to the internet and communicate with the rest of the world. A modem's disadvantage is that it can let viruses and hackers into your network. One potential drawback of using a modem to connect to the internet is that it leaves your devices open to malware and hackers. As a result, many routers and modems have built-in firewalls that limit access to your network from the outside. You can also use security software to keep your devices safe.

2.2.2 Router A router may be a communications device that connects multiple computers or other routers together and transmits data to its correct destination on a network through a process called routing which occurs at layer 3 (the Network layer e.g., IP) of the OSI seven-layer protocol stack. In a very simple network connection, the web cable connects together with your router allowing it to transmit and receive information from the net. Other devices in your office network hook up with the router using an Ethernet switch in between and so gain access to the web. Routers connect employees to networks, both local and global, and hence to the net, where practically every important task is dispensed. We wouldn't be ready to cooperate, communicate, obtain information, or learn on the online without routers. Routers can even be used for security. Embedded firewall and content filtering software adds another layer of protection against undesirable content and harmful websites without interfering together with your browsing experience. However, a router is employed for quite just data transmission and Internet connectivity. The Asus RT-AX86U (figure 2) is that the greatest wireless router, a Wi-Fi 6 powerhouse with the talents to run a complete house's worth of connected gear, giving sheer power for gaming and securing any device you own. it is a mixture of general-purpose router, serious gaming equipment, and cybersecurity protection for a good price with starting price is RM 999.00 for all goods. 2.2.3 Switch Switches may be a very important foundation of an office network. this is often a network device that enables other devices on the network to speak and share information. Networks include PCs, printers, NAS (Network Attached Storage) devices, servers, and vocalization Internet Protocol (VoIP), and switches integrate these devices into the network. The wireless router you utilize are often a mixture of wireless routers, access points, and switches, so you will not see the switch reception. The function of the switch is different from that of a router that interconnects different networks. In multiple enterprises, routers connect the network to the web and switches connect various devices within the network. An unmanaged switch is that the sole and most simple reasonably switch. It’s simple because you'll use it out of the box because it doesn’t need any configuration. Unmanaged switches are more cost-effective but lack advanced features. they're best for little offices that have simple networks. A managed switch gives you control over the operation of the switch. you'll be able to configure your switch to figure out how your network consumes a web connection. you'll be able to configure the switch via a CLI (command line interface), SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol), or a web interface. as an example, a managed switch allows you to line port bandwidth, and build or modify VLANs (Virtual Local Area Networks). Managed switches are costlier and want some technical knowledge for using them effectively. Another key advantage is that they are visiting be managed remotely and hence are very useful for large offices and satellite locations. Repeater could be a network device that regenerates the Wi-Fi signal over the identical network. Its job is to require weak or corrupted Wi-Fi signals and restore them to their original strength. Repeaters don't increase or magnify the wireless signal, so keep that in mind. Wireless repeaters don't require any wiring, making them a practical solution to increase your WLAN's range without having to feature more APs. The wireless repeater needs to receive a WiFi signal to regenerate the signal, thus it won't work if it's located in an exceedingly Wi-Fi dead zone. Repeaters are simple to set up. All you need to do now is connect to the power supply first and then install the repeater in a spot that can receive your existing WiFi network. Then, using your computer try to log into the WiFi repeater and enter the login information and password for your existing WiFi network to allow the WiFi repeater to connect and extend. A wireless access point (WAP) is a networking device that bridges the gap between wireless and wired networks. Using wireless access points (WAPs) to link all of the computers or devices in your network is more convenient and less time-consuming than using wires and cables. With a WAP, you may create a wireless network within your existing wired network, allowing wireless devices to connect. You can also use a WAP or mesh extender to improve the signal range and power of your wireless network, especially in larger office spaces or buildings, to provide total wireless coverage and prevent "dead spots." You may also adjust the settings of all of your WAPs from a single device. Access points, on the other hand, can handle up to 60 connections at the same time. Users can walk freely from room to room without experiencing network interruptions by deploying access points across the office. Their gadgets will effortlessly transition from one access point to the next as they travel throughout the facility, and they won't even notice they're switching networks. Linksys Business is a well-known name in the business when it comes to wireless access points and technology. This is due to the fact that they combine great performance with the latest MIMO technology to provide you with a stable internet connection. This Wi-Fi access point's key selling point is that it is equipped with the most cutting-edge technology available: MU-MIMO technology. Needless to say, I'm somewhat taken aback by this. However, explaining how it works may take some time. I'm going to keep things simple. The MU-MIMO technology switch essentially allows you to develop a better internet connection and operate faster without experiencing any interruptions.
