INSTRUCTIONS:
STEP 1:
Using construction paper, cut two circles that are slightly
larger than the diameter of the toilet paper roll.
STEP 2:
Put a hole in the center of each of the circles and glue them
onto both ends of the toilet paper roll to create a homemade
spool to act as the wheel on the pulley.
STEP 3:
Place a hole on both sides of the cup near the rim.
STEP 4:
Thread the yarn through the two holes and tie them to secure
the cup in place on the string.
STEP 5:
Wrap the other end of the yarn several times around your
toilet paper roll leaving about a foot of yarn hanging down.
STEP 6:
Put the pencil through the holes made in step 2.
STEP 7:
Secure the pencil and wheel to something so it will hang.
Then pull down on the string that is not holding the cup. It
should pull up your cup!

Pulley

Pulley: A pulley is a grooved wheel with a rope or chain wrapped around it. The grooved wheel is called a sheave or drum. The sheave keeps the rope in place on the pulley. How do pulleys work? Pulleys are used to lift or lower heavy objects. One end of a rope is tied to a heavy object or load. When the other end of the rope is pulled, the downward force rotates the wheel and pulls the load upwards.
