The Male Germ Unit (MGU) is a structural and functional unit in the mature pollen grain or pollen tube, consisting of the vegetative nucleus and the two male gamete nuclei (or generative cell before division). These components remain closely associated during pollen tube growth and fertilization.
Visualize a pollen tube with a large vegetative nucleus at the front, followed closely by two smaller male gamete nuclei. These three are connected by fine cytoplasmic strands, forming a single moving unit — the Male Germ Unit — that travels toward the ovule for fertilization.
