Polyethylene glycol is an osmotic laxative. This is for the short-term relief of constipation and irregular bowel movements. This product's dust or powder may cause eye and respiratory tract irritation. Adverse effects are rare for short-term usage. With long term use or overdosage of osmotic laxatives, dehydration and electrolyte disturbances may occur. These disturbances may produce vomiting and muscle weakness. Laxative abuse may cause constipation, edema, bleeding and impaired bowel function.
OSHA regulatory status This material is not considered hazardous by the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard, OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1200.
