Definition

1. The planning and control of the activities related

to the materials flow from the suppliers up to

the end of the conversion/production process.

2. The organizational functions responsible for the

planning, sourcing, stocking and logistics

activities of materials used in the internal and

external fulfillment of demand.

3. Planning and control of the functions supporting

the complete cycle (flow) of materials, and

the associated flow of information.

4. An approach for planning, organizing, and

controlling all those activities principally

concerned with the flow of materials into an

organization.
