condition for parallel force system.
Beam is a structural member of length which is considerably greater than 2D. Building beam are used for transfer of load to the columns .generally beams are transversely loaded i.e. load is acting perpendicular to the axis of beam.
“ If number of forces are acting on a body which is in equilibrium then the algebraic sum of the forces must be equal to zero.” Let RL= Reaction at left Support RR= Reaction at right support Using the condition of equilibrium for parallel force system. Taking moment about the left support, W 1 L 1 +W 2 L 2 - RRL=0 …….(1) The reaction at right support i.e. RL-W 1 L 1 -W 2 L2 + RR= 0……(2)
i) Study the apparatus carefully. ii) Place the beam and support. Note the distance between the two supports. iii) Note the initial reading of spring balance at both the support. iv) Note the distance W 1 and W 2 from left support. v) Note the final reading of the spring balance at both the support. vi) Calculate the reactions. vii) Calculate the percentage error at each support. viii) Repeat the above procedure by changing the span or laods. ix) Calculate the mean error at both the supports.
