Theophylline, aminophylline
Xanthine Derivatives
Relax smooth muscles of the airways,
reducing bronchospasm and improving
airflow.
Oral administration with
monitoring of blood levels to
avoid toxicity.
Caffeine
GI upset, headache, arrhymias, seizures.
Theo= God or god-like. If you take theophylline, which has
very serious side effects, you may see god sooner vs
later.
Coronary artery disease (CAD)
Therapeutic serum theophylline
level is 10-20 mcg/ml. Report
levels >20 mcg/ml to provider.
Periodic blood draws are
required during treatment to
check serum levels. Avoid
foods/drinls with caffeine!
