  2. Save this document as your ‘student ID+ASSIGN-2’.
  3. Prepare an entity relation diagram (ERD) for the case below:

Business case for ERD:

Overview of business case:

BestDine is an Italian restaurant and Pizzeria that provides a selection of high quality dishes and pizza variety. So far they have been using an Excel spreadsheet to track their business activities; however, this has caused many redundancies and inefficiency. With view to their expanding business and under the new management, they decided to investigate the option of implementing a database system. Accordingly, they asked you to design a database system to keep track of their business activities.

Your task

Create an ERD for each of the following statements that describe the current business rules for BestDine. For each new statement being the business rule, extend the ERD to include the additional business rule in the ERD (created in previous point - for example; B will include A&B, C will include A, B & C, etc.)

Use Crows Foot notations and include all the following in each part:

 All entities with Primary key and any foreign key attributes;  The relationships between entities;  The cardinality and optionality of each relationship;  Any M:N relationships are be resolved to 1:M relationships

BestDine sample business rules for your ERD:

A. They need to track the number of items used in each dish they use, and a dish will naturally contain many different items. B. The restaurant menu contains many dishes that are numbered and given a brief description and price. C. When visitors come to the restaurant, they are giving a table (tables may even be reserved in advance) and the table has a number and size. Visitors make order on one or more dishes from the given menu. D. There are 3-4 waiters and waitresses who are employed by BestDine for each roster (for example: morning, afternoon or night).

E. Occasionally, BestDine may ask one of the waiters and waitresses to work extra time when it is peak time. Each roster has a different hourly pay rate, and BestDine need to keep records of which staff (waiters and waitresses) works extra time. F. In each roster there is a manager who supervises the other staff.

For the final ERD, you need to use appropriate drawing software: https://www.gliffy.com/ , https://www.draw.io/ or http://creately.com/ are acceptable.

  1. You will need to copy the diagram using a screen shot (PrintScrn) into the Word document ‘student IDs+ASSIGN-2’ you created earlier in point 2.
  2. Under the diagram (In Word), type a brief description of the relationships you have used and what business rules were these based on.
  3. Save your document and submit as instructed by the teacher.

Refer to Submission Instructions on page 4
