Managers and Managing
Managers: The people responsible for supervising the use of an organization’s resources to meet its goals.
Management: The Planning, Organizing, Leading, and Controlling of Human Resources to achieve
organizational goals effectively and efficiently.
Organization Performance
Is a measure of how efficiently and effectively managers use available resources to satisfy customers and achieve
organizational goals
Efficiency … A measure of how well or how productively resources are used to achieve a goal.
Manager is efficient when he minimize The amount of inputs resources such as ( labors , materials, Time )
EX: Time needed to produce given output, “Doing things right”
Effectiveness… A measure of the appropriateness of the goals an organization is pursuing and the
degree to which they are achieved. “Doing the right things”
Manager is Effective when he chooses appropriate goals and achieves them.
Ex: Choosing McDonalds to provide Breakfast service to attract more customers.
Note: Organization performance (Increase), as Efficiency and effectiveness (Increase).
Q: Why we study management!?
1. The more Efficient and Effective use of scarce resources that organization make of those
resources, The greater the relative well-being and prosperity of people in that society.
2. Helps People deal with their Bosses and Co-workers.

Managers and Managing

Managers: The people responsible for supervising the use of an organization’s resources to meet its goals.

Management: The Planning, Organizing, Leading, and Controlling of Human Resources to achieve

♦ Organization Performance

Four Tasks of Management

  1. Planning

identifying and Choosing appropriate organizational goals and course of action to

best serve achieve those goals.

The three steps involving Planning …

a) which goal the organization will pursue.

b) Deciding what strategy to adopt.

c) Decide how to allocate Organization resources to attain these goals.

  1. Organizing Establish Tasks and authority relationship that allows people to work together to achieve organization goals (organizing people into departments according to the kind of job )

  1. Leading Motivate, Coordinate, and energize individuals and groups to work together to achieve organizational goals
  2. Controlling Establish accurate measuring an monitoring systems to evaluate how well the organization has achieve its goals

1) Supervises First-Line Managers

2) Responsible for finding the best way to use scarce resources to achieve organizational goals

Top Managers

1) Responsible for the performance of all departments

2) Establish organizational goals

3) Decide how different departments should be interact

4) Monitor how well middle manager utilize resources to achieve goals.
