The following seven questions are based on PEPKOR Holdings Limited's integrated annual report (IAR) for 2022. You need to download the report to answer the questions. To download the integrated report, go to https://www.pepkor.co.za/wp-content/uploads/ 2022 / 12 /Pepkor- integrated- report- 2022 .pdf Instructions Download and save the IAR on your desktop or in a folder, so that you can access it easily. Once you have saved the IAR, open the report and answer the questions. Each question refers to a heading and a page number. Page numbers refer to the page number as indicated on the integrated report (top right). You do NOT have to read the entire report; only refer to the specified sections. We advise you to work with the electronic version of the integrated report, as it is a lengthy document to print. Work on a laptop or computer, so that you can easily openand navigate between two windows/browsers. Question 1 Refer to the report on page 46 of the IAR and identify the level of the manager who wrote this report. The manager who wrote the report is Riaan Hanekom, who holds the position of Chief Financial Officer (CFO). This is indicated at the bottom of the "Normalised results" section on page 46 of the Integrated Annual Report (IAR).
Question 4 Consider the stakeholders who are discussed on pages 43 – 45 of the IAR. Classify each of the five external stakeholders under either the general or the task environment. Tip: Employees are from the organisation’s internal environment, and should (^) therefore not be included in your answer. Task Environment: Suppliers and business partners: These entities provide input resources needed by the organization to produce goods and services. They are directly involved in the organization's supply chain and can impact its ability to obtain necessary resources. Regulators, legislators, and governing bodies: This category includes government entities and regulatory bodies that set laws, regulations, and standards that the organization must comply with. They have a direct influence on the organization's operations and compliance requirements. General Environment: Customers: Customers are individuals or entities who purchase goods or services from the organization. They represent the market demand for the organization's products and services and can influence its sales and revenue. Communities: Communities encompass the broader societal context in which the organization operates. They include local communities where the organization's facilities are located and may be impacted by its operations. Investors and providers of financial capital: This category includes shareholders, creditors, and other financial stakeholders who provide capital to the organization. They have a financial interest in the organization's performance and expect a return on their investment.
Question 5 Go to the Chair ’ s review report on page 13 of the IAR and conduct a SWOT analysis. Provide two examples of each component in your answer. Opportunities: Strategic Initiatives for Growth: Pepkor has identified numerous strategic initiatives, including eight growth drivers, to leverage its strong position in the discount and value market for further expansion. This suggests opportunities for market expansion and revenue growth through targeted strategic initiatives. Capital Allocation for Value Creation: With a focus on executing strategic initiatives and creating sustainable value for stakeholders, Pepkor's capital allocation priorities provide opportunities for long-term value creation and shareholder returns. Threats: External Socio-Economic Challenges: Ongoing socio-economic challenges in South Africa, such as high unemployment and economic volatility, pose threats to Pepkor's sales performance and financial stability. These external factors could undermine consumer spending and confidence, impacting the company's revenue. Operational Risks: Pepkor faces operational risks associated with unforeseen events like social unrest and natural disasters, as evidenced by the damage caused by the 2021 social unrest and the 2022 KwaZulu-Natal floods. These operational risks could disrupt supply chains, damage infrastructure, and affect business continuity, posing threats to Pepkor's operations and financial performance.
Product Diversification: Along with expanding its geographical footprint, PEP diversified its product offerings to cater to a broader customer base. By introducing a wide range of clothing, footwear, homeware, and cellular products, PEP aimed to appeal to diverse customer preferences and capture a larger share of the market. Value Proposition: Despite its expansion efforts, PEP remained committed to its value proposition of offering quality products at affordable prices. Trough sourcing locally and supporting local manufacturers, PEPKOR is creating job opportunities and contributing to economic growth in South Africa.
