Mr. (^) Lansdowne is Director of the· Schools and Hospitals Program (^) for the State of Colo- rado. He has attended New (^) Jersey (^) Institute (^) of Technology, B. S. Industrial (^) Engineer- ing (1969),and (^) the University of (^) Denver College of Law, J. D. (1973).

Previous employment experiences include (^) working (^) as a sales engineer for Carrier^ Air Conditioning (^) Company; (^) as a participant in (^) an interdisciplinary (^) study team which (^) pro- duced (^) a, report entitled "Tax Lead-time Study of (^) the Oil Shale Region,"prepared for the Governor' s Committee (^) on Oil Shale (^) Environmental Problems; (^) as a drafter (^) and (^) super- visor for (^) the Colorado Legislative Drafting Office; as a solar (^) energy consultant (^) for Los Alamos^ Scientific Laboratories, (^) and (^) as a solar (^) energy consultant for (^) the Colorado Office of (^) Energy Conservation.

Announcements (^) were made by Bob Sidwell (^) regarding the election (^) ballots to be in by April 11, 1979, and (^) the C. R. C. meeting (^) to be held May 20-22, 1979 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Gary Griffith made^ an announcement regarding the upcoming Technical (^) Seminar in April.

Bob Sidwell introduced the (^) guest speakers, Don Tolin, Dennis Miller and Dave Nelson of Tolin Refrigeration, (^) who presented (^) a talk (^) on the DX Cycle. (^) Subjects covered (^) were basic refrigeration (^) components, the (^) use of double suction (^) risers, refrigeration (^) sys- tem (^) uses with VAV (^) systems, heat reclaim from (^) refrigeration (^) systems fuel savings, and types of^ compressors in^ refrigeration (^) systems.

The meeting was closed at 9: 40 P. M.

Refrigeration -The DX Cycle

Don Tolin,^ Denis Miller and Dave Nelson of Tolin Refrigeration (^) Company, will discuss refrigeration (^) and several of its (^) applica- tions in the today' s HVAC industry. Under special consideration will (^) be refrigerant piping systems (^) as they relate (^) to DX VAV cooling (^) and DX heat reclaim (^) systems. Several unusual (^) yet practical applications will be discussed.

DONALD N. TOLIN, President:^ After^ graduat,ing^ from^ C.U. in^ 1960, Don Tolin^ spent his

early years with Tolin Refrigeration Company "paying his dues" by working with the

tools in^ the field,^ learning^ refrigeration^ and its^ application under the tutelage of

his father and (^) company founder Ralph (^) W. Tolin, and developing and managing (^) the (^) com- pany' s business^ and^ accounting^ functions. In 1977 Don (^) was elected^ President^ of^ Tolin^ Refrigeration^ Company, and under his^ lead- ership the (^) company has continued (^) to (^) grow and has maintained its position (^) as one of

the leaders in the industry of design/build contracting of major HVAC and refrigera-

tion projects.

DENIS J. MILLER, P.E.:Denis^ Miller,^ after graduating^ from the University of Illi-

nois, worked as a sales engineer for the Trane Company in New England. Five of those

years were as the^ sub-office^ manager in^ Springfield,^ Mass.^ The^ last^ few^ years^ Denis

  2. The "State of the Art" in passive solar heating;

  4. The interface of architectural and mechanical engineering (^) concerns in passive solar heating;
  5. What (^) seems to be the present and future roles of the design and (^) construc- tion community in passive solar heating,

Our (^) speaker is (^) Mr. Bruce Baccei of the Solar Energy (^) Research Institute. Bruce (^) Baccei holds (^) the position of Senior Staff Architect (^) and Program Manager in (^) the Passive Technology (^) Branch at the Solar Energy Research Institute (^) located in (^) Golden, Colorado.

As (^) a member of the Technology Commercialization (^) Division, Baccei is (^) currently head- ing (^) up the Passive (^) Solar Manufactured Buildings (^) project, in addition (^) to (^) numerous other tasks.

Receiving his Bachelor of (^) Science from (^) the U.S. Military Academy in (^) West Point, New York, he then graduated from (^) the University of Oregon (^) with his Master of Architecture. Prior (^) to joining (^) the Institute, he (^) was a Project Architect and (^) Energy Conservation Officer (^) in the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers (^) in Norfolk, Virginia.

This promises to be a

very enlightening^ program for^ anyone in^ the^ building design (^) or construction community.

Mike Scofield announced the three-day river^ trip^ which^ will^ be^ July^ 18,^19 and^ 20,

  1. This trip will be^ open to· the^ .Nebraska' ChapteK^ and^ Rocky^ Mountain^ Chapter members.

Region 9 Vice Chairman Ken Yakel (^) was presented^ to^ the^ membership.^ Ken^ announced^ the CRC meeting^ dates^ of^ May^21 and^ 22,^1979 in' Sioux^ Falls, South^ Dakota, and^ presented Mike Scofield,^ last (^) year' s president, with (^) the Presidential Award of Excellence for

  6. Design methods that (^) can improve hydronic^ balancing.
  7. Balancing demonstrations (^) on laboratory equipment.

Pete Sabeff, will be made in the Durango Room of the Ramada at 3: 30 P.M. Mechanical

engineering (^) students from the University (^) of Colorado, (^) Colorado State University, Colorado School of Mines (^) and the University (^) of Wyoming will be given (^) an introduction

to ASHRAE and our professions.

The (^) program will (^) feature (^) Mr. Bob (^) Heapes representing (^) sales organizations, (^) Mr. (^) Tom Colvin with (^) engineering (^) and Mr. (^) Steve Larson with (^) contractors.

Recently all national members received ballots (^) for proxy votes on the realignment of ASHRAE from ten regions to twelve regions. These proxies will be used at the upcom- ing semiannual (^) meeting (^) in Philadelphia to decide this (^) issue. (^) We ask that each member vote now according to his preference. The meeting was called to order at 7: 50 P.M. November 1, 1978 at Writers' (^) Manor by President Robin Adair. (^) There were 46 members and eight guests in attendance.

The film "Tall Dilemma" was shown to. the^ group which^ showed^ problems^ which^ are in-

volved with fires in high-rise buildings, after which Lt. Gonzales opened the floor

for discussion^ and questions.^ He pointed^ out the^ importance^ of^ an Engineer-Fire

Department meeting^ and code^ requirement^ for^ all^ buildings.

Robin announced the next meeting was to be students' night and all members were asked

to sponsor one student^ at^ this^ meeting^ on December^ 6,^ 1978.
