Cerebral Palsy

MUSCLES AFFECTED:

People with cerebral palsy have increases muscle tone, causing their muscles to be stiff. Arms & legs, the trunk and the face.

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE

MUSCLES?

HOW AND WHEN DO

YOU DEVELOP CEREBRAL

PALSY?

  • Although there are causes, most cases with cerebral palsy (about 85%-90%) is congenital, meaning: present from birth.
  • Brain damage early in life, brain infections & problems with blood flow to the brain could also be some probable causes.

COMMON SYMPTOMS

  • Weak arms or legs
  • Random uncontrolled movements
  • Muscle spasms
  • Shaking hands (tremors)
  • Fidget, jerky or clumsy movements.

Who is most at risk? Children who

weigh less than 5 ½ pounds (low birth weights) are more at risk.

Future of cerebral Palsy:

So far research has told us that people with CP typically use 3-5 times more energy than those without CP to perform daily life activities.

  • The Burke Neurological institute is focused on improving moveents is school-aged children to help them gain mpre skillful movemnet ability.

To our understanding..

Research institutes are more focused on making /creating treatments and environments more inclusive & accesible to those who have CP.
