Uneven development
“Extreme weather, such as cyclones, droughts and floods, most often
hit tropical areas and are becoming more severe”
Extreme weather events, such as cyclones, droughts, and floods, frequently
impact tropical regions and are becoming more severe due to climate change.
For example, Bangladesh is highly vulnerable to cyclones and flooding due to its
low-lying geography and exposure to the Bay of Bengal. Cyclone Sidr and
Cyclone Amphan in 2020 caused widespread destruction, displacing millions
and damaging infrastructure. Similarly,&Mozambique&in southeastern Africa
experiences severe tropical cyclones and floods. In 2019, Cyclone Idai
devastated large parts of the country, causing massive flooding, destroying
homes, and leading to a humanitarian crisis. These extreme weather events
highlight the growing risks faced by tropical nations due to climate change.
