Properties of curves and surfaces in the neighborhood of a point treated by calculus
and vector methods.
Prerequisite: Math 256.
Math. 680 Theory of Numbers (3)
Divisibility, congruences, continued fractions, Fermat's theorem, quadratic residues.
Prerequisite: An undergraduate minor in mathematics.
Math. 681 Theory of Finite Croups (3)
Permutation groups, abstract groups, Cayley's theorem, Sylow's theorem.
Prerequisite: Math. 340.
NURSING
INSTRUCTORS , Crispin, Evans, McFarlane, Miller.
Arizona State College Nursing Program is a basic program preparing the
student for beginning nursing positions in the hospital. It is an Associate Degree
Program of two full calendar years in length. The student receives the Associate
of Science Degree upon satisfactory completion of the program.
The Nursing Program is accredited by the Arizona State Board of Nurse
Registration and Nursing Education. The graduates are eligible to write the State
Board Examination to become a licensed registered nurse.
The student will be taking her academic courses on campus along with nursing
courses. The. nursing courses are composed of lecture and laboratory work. The
laboratory time is in the hospital working with patients for specified periods of
time under the supervision of a member of the College nursing faculty.
A Nursing Program bulletin which describes admission requirements, hospital
facilities used and other information is available and will be sent upon request.

OBJECTIVES
Instruction and facilities are provided to stimulate the student to:
1. Obtain knowledge and develop understanding to function as a beginning prac-
titioner of nursing by:
a, developing ability to use communication skills effectively
b. increasing her knowledge and understanding of principles of health and
prevention of disease
c developing understanding and judgment in planning nursing care
d. increasing her skills in implementing safe and effective patient care.
2. Understand her professional responsibilities and be capable of accepting her
role as a contributing citizen in her community.
3. Recognize the health needs of her community and work with a health team
in meeting these needs.
4. Develop the desire for continuous education, professional upgrading, and per-
sonal development.

DESCRIPTION OF COURSES

Nursing 101 Fundamentals of Nursing I (5) Introduction is made to the profession of nursing and the responsibilities in practicing nursing. A study of the basic common needs in health and deviations from health of all ages with supervised clinical laboratory experiences in the hospital closely corre- lated with theory. Two lect. and three labs. Offered in fall.

Nursing 102 Fundamentals of Nursing II (4) A continuation of the fundamentals of nursing care of the patient with emphasis on knowledge, understanding, and application of scientific principles related to promotion of health and prevention of disease. An introduction to pharmacology is made. Two lect., two labs. Spring semester.

Nursing 103 Medical and Surgical Nursing I (4) Medical-Surgical Nursing of the adult patient concentrating on major deviations from the norm, integrating principles of nursing intervention, nutrition and pharmacology. Comprehensive patient care is stressed utilizing problem solving methods and the scientific principles basic to professional nursing. One lect. and three labs. Offered in summer.

Nursing 201 Psychiatric Nursing (7) A study of the emotional and psychological needs of individuals with emphasis on deviations from "normal" behavior. Supervised selected experiences are chosen from the various agencies providing prevention and treatment of mental illness. Six lect. and eight labs. Offered in fall.

Nursing 202 Medical and Surgical Nursing II (7) A continuation of Medical-Surgical Nursing 103. Units in disaster and emergency nursing included. Six lect. and eight labs. Offered in fall.

Nursing 203 Pediatric Nursing (7) A study of the normal child and of the preventive, remedial, and supportive aspects of the care of the child. Units on communicable disease, congenital malformations, and illnesses common to the child are included. Sit lect. and eight labs. Offered in spring

Nursing 204 Maternity Nursing (7)

This course is designed to develop understanding of the care of the mother and infant during a maternity cycle, including the nursing care of the normal newborn in the hospital. Six lect., eight labs. Spring.
