This programme offers registered nurses the opportunity to develop, refine and extend care initiatives in primary, secondary or tertiary health care settings. The Programme aims to facilitate the development of an innovative and reflective practitioner capable of initiating and contributing to high quality evidence based care in a contemporary inter-professional arena. Students will be able to: Reflect upon the dimensions of accountable practice Appraise and utilise the evidence base for contemporary practice Critically analyse approaches and methods to assessment, problem solving and decision making Relate theoretical understanding from a range of disciplines to enhance the implementation and evaluation of relevant therapeutic interventions Appraise, and respond to, own professional development needs, and be able to teach and supervise others

The programme comprises 120 credits. Students require 120 credits at Level 4 to enter the programme with Advanced standing. The Dip HE Nursing practice requires a further 120 credits to be passed at levels 5 to achieve this award. 90 credits of the Dip HE Nursing practice programme are Compulsory. 30 credits of the Dip HE Nursing practice programme are option choices. These can be selected from any of the modules approved by the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery. Two attempts at each module assignment are permitted. Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) can be used up to the maximum permitted by the College but cannot be used to substitute for a failed module. Compensation is not permitted.
(b) range of credit levels permitted within the programme A minimum of 90 Level 5 credits must be completed. Students are permitted to achieve up to 30 credits of their programme through Accreditation of prior learning – either certificated or experiential.

Modules should normally be studied in the following order:
Academic Practice as the first module. Other modules may be taken in any order but it is recommended that the compulsory modules are undertaken before optional modules where this does not significantly lengthen the course of study for the student because of the varying availability of modules in the Programme.
Students are not normally permitted to re-enrol if they are completing assignment resubmissions for 30 credits or more from previously failed modules
