NOTES FOR PACKING
- WHEN YOU MOVE IN:
- prepare some sort of bag with cleaning materials! I had a small bag with some
scissors to open boxes, some wipes, etc. Dorm rooms are cleaned but they can
still be kinda gross so make sure you wipe down surfaces, etc.
- also PREPARE YOUR PARKING PERMITS/MOVE IN SLIPS . You’ll be
able to see this through your housing portal on August 4th, please have some sort
of folder with all of this information in it! Also be prepared to have some sort of
ID on hand for the moving boxes.
- MAKE SURE TO KEEP SOME OF THE BOXES/PACKING TAPE/OTHER ASSORTED
PACKING STUFF SO ITS EASIER WHEN U MOVE OUT
- also note that trashbags, vacuums, irons are all provided in your dorm so you dont need
to buy one
- the trashbags are kind of flimsy, but you can always double bag
- note that some of this stuff can be bought up in Ithaca, but note that target/walmart etc
will probably be pretty empty when you move in/start selling out of stuff because
EVERYONE is trying to buy stuff so be prepared to wait to buy some essentials if you go
down that route
- as well, amazon takes about a week to deliver things up to ithaca (even with prime!) so
don’t rely on that
- ALSO MAKE A COPY OF THIS LIST! YOU CAN JUST CLICK THE CHECKLIST AS YOU
GO
- ALSO WHEN YOU MOVE IN. HAVE A BAG OF CLEANING SUPPLIES THAT YOU CAN
USE TO WIPE DOWN EVERYTHING. YOU DONT KNOW WHERE THINGS HAVE
BEEN!
bath and bedding
comforter + duvet cover
bedsheets/fitted sheet (2)
would suggest getting two sets of bedsheets so you don’t need to rewash sheets as often/having
an extra pair in case
pillows (2)
throw pillows
mattress pad/topper
straps for keeping mattress pad on (can be useful, i didnt use mine when i ordered it)
towels (hand/bath)
GET A BUNCH!!!! you will always be needing small towels or smth esp if you spill stuff
shower shoes/flip flops (important)
shower basket
plastic shower baskets are nice because they won't mold
throw basket/blankets
towel rack
I found this command strip one that would be really useful if you like to hang your towels out
to dry!
mattress protector
for a musty bed lol

NOTES FOR PACKING

- WHEN YOU MOVE IN:

  • prepare some sort of bag with cleaning materials! I had a small bag with some scissors to open boxes, some wipes, etc. Dorm rooms are cleaned but they can still be kinda gross so make sure you wipe down surfaces, etc.
  • also PREPARE YOUR PARKING PERMITS/MOVE IN SLIPS. You’ll be able to see this through your housing portal on August 4th, please have some sort of folder with all of this information in it! Also be prepared to have some sort of ID on hand for the moving boxes.
  • MAKE SURE TO KEEP SOME OF THE BOXES/PACKING TAPE/OTHER ASSORTED PACKING STUFF SO ITS EASIER WHEN U MOVE OUT
  • also note that trashbags, vacuums, irons are all provided in your dorm so you dont need to buy one
  • the trashbags are kind of flimsy, but you can always double bag
  • note that some of this stuff can be bought up in Ithaca, but note that target/walmart etc will probably be pretty empty when you move in/start selling out of stuff because EVERYONE is trying to buy stuff so be prepared to wait to buy some essentials if you go down that route

shower shoes/flip flops (important)

shower basket plastic shower baskets are nice because they won't mold throw basket/blankets towel rack I found this command strip one that would be really useful if you like to hang your towels out to dry! mattress protector for a musty bed lol

laundry laundry bag hampers are a bit difficult to store/move around, just go with a backpack option. mesh bags (delicates) laundry detergent I got a super concentrated detergent because its easier to carry. DONT GET TIDE PODS THEY DONT WORK IN THE LAUNDRY CONTAINER. Pods are also probably not going to work as well/dissolve as much as the washers are not that strong. Don’t risk getting weird goop on your clothing and opt for a more sustainable option (super concentrated detergent/detergent sheets are super convenient and you have to lug around less!) dryer sheets/dryer balls dryer balls > dryer sheets. won’t destroy your clothes and more sustainable for the environment mini steamer umbrella i would get 2 in case you lose/misplace one! poncho hangers lint roller stain remover (tide to go sticks) along the thread of stain removers, white vinegar/baking soda because they’re pretty common stain removers/household cleaners health and grooming (bathroom) body wash shampoo/conditioner comb/brush toothbrush + toothpaste skincare sunscreen bathrobe soap container i didn’t need a soap container, but if you dont like the cornell soap feel free to buy your own floss q-tips nail clipper/file cotton pads razor + shaving kit nail polish + remover first aid kit thermometer eye drops contacts makeup remover

  • on the note of partying clothes, make sure you have some sort of fracket (frat jacket), as it gets cold. you need to be willing to lose it down the line because people will accidentally take jackets
  • also have a pair of old shoes that you bring that you’re willing to destroy because frat floors are disgusting
  • I would bring your winter wardrobe up when you move in, especially if you have the space because it does get pretty cold quick
  • GET MORE SOCKS AND UNDERWEAR THAN YOU THINK YOU NEED. THEY WILL GET DESTROYED.
  • i would also bring some sort of formal wear (business formal clothing) in case you need it for clubs and stuff. just a nice pair of dress pants, collared shirt, and a suit jacket should work (girls this also works for you but you can add a skirt/more shirt options if you want!) kitchen bowls, plates get about two bowls sponge dish soap tupperware (with lids) reusable cup cutlery dishcloths get 2-3 dishcloths, so you can dry dishes after you wash it brita pitcher + extra filters minifridge you can also rent through microfridge, but the price to rent one is basically the price of buying one. you just have to worry about storing it over the summer (which is like 100- bucks iirc) insulated bottle hydroflask/the like pot/pan i liked having them - if you don’t cook as much or just don’t want to cook in your kitchen i wouldn’t bother keeping it disposable cutlery/dishware basket for dishes some sort of cheap plastic basket helps hold all of your dishes as you carry them to the kitchen! electric kettle baking soda if you have a minifridge, I liked keeping a box of baking soda in it to eliminate odors! misc/storage scissors ziploc bags tissues

BRING MORE THAN YOU NEED. I RAN OUT LIKE TWICE AND BROUGHT LIKE 4

BOXES (I WAS ALSO SOSOSOSO SICK)

step stool flashlight reusable bags (tote bags) picnic blanket sewing kit first aid kit batteries I personally didn’t need a battery, but check if anything you need needs it. mounting putty/painters tape/command hooks if you’re looking to string up lights, i really liked these clear ones that (probably) wont destroy your walls duct tape shoe tray/shoe rack (you want a tray cause ur shoes will get like weirdly wet and shit so u can catch all the wetness) (also for ur shower bag) RASKOG utility cart VESKEN shelf unit the two above are specific storage things that I bought but any sort of utility cart/cheap shelving unit will probably work. there’s no IKEA near ithaca so country girls make do. However, I bought both of these because they’re easy to disassemble so move out will be easier. save the boxes they come in so you can just repack them some sort of big container/box I got it for underbed storage - this will depend on your dorm cleaning supplies clorox wipes all purpose cleaner paper towels poo pourri swiffer sweeper on hardwood floors, I found the important documents + wallet state id credit cards debit card health insurance card hsa card passport cash in small denominations (200 dollars in 20s, 10s, 50s) emergency contact info vaccine card health insurance card might be the most important here, you need it for cornell health. never had to use my vaccine card. ALSO GET A CREDIT CARD. BUILD YOUR CREDIT. work-related documents
