FOOD LABELS

โ— Labels on packaged food must contain:

  1. Name of food
  2. County of origin
  3. Warnings about allergens
  4. Ingredients which are listed in decreasing order by weight
  5. Expiry date
  6. Manufacturers food must contain nutrition information panel โ— Nutrition information panel (NIP) โ— Nip tell quantity of various nutrients โ— Food contains per serve, as well as per 100g or 100ml โ— Law introduced in 2003, all manufactured foods must chave NIP PERSONAL FOOD CHOICES โ— Choice of food influenced by range of factors:
  7. Nutritional value- eating as family is an important part of growing up, family meals are what a lot of people see as normal meals, home cooked more nutritious than wholesome then fast food.
  8. Value for money- cost of food a primary determinant of food choice, low income group greater tendency to consume unbalanced diets, household income important factor influencing food choice.

COMMON INJURIES & ILLNESSES

โ— Situations can pose a threat to safety โ— When treating injury important to identify signs underlying symptoms โ— Bleeding loss of blood from arteries, veins & capillaries โ— If bleeding is severe, may result in death โ— Burn is damage to skin & deep body tissue by excessive heat, friction, chemical โ— Burns classified by their depth

  3. 3rd degree โ— Choking is obstruction of the upper airway by impacted object โ— If the casualty can breath, cough or speak, indicates that some movement of air is occurring โ— When suffering shock they are unable to provide oxygen to all tissues โ— Epilepsy, chronic condition causes seizures, normal electrical activity of brain becomes irregular, can be caused by head injury, infection, disease or poison โ— Diabetes occur when body cannot produce enough insulin โ— Insulin is required to allow glucose to be utilized by body as energy โ— 2 types of diabetes โ— Type 1 diabetes- commonly found in children & adolescents โ— Occurs when pancreases losses ability to make insulin, injections โ— Type 2 diabetes- occurs in older people, often associated with being overweight โ— People make insulin, however doesnโ€™t work efficiently, tablets โ— Hypo- occurs in people with tpe 1 diabetes, low blood glucose โ— Hyper- high blood glucose โ— Humans have immune system that recognises what is usually part of the body & what is not โ— Immune system becomes hypersensitive to chemicals from food, animals,materials this causes allergic reaction (epipen) โ— Anaphylaxis potentially life threatening, allergic to food, sting, or medication

โ— Asthma is when airways are narrow & u become exposed to certain triggers โ— 2 types of asthma

  1. Persistent asthma- frequent attacks
  2. Intermittent asthma- no symptoms, occasional attacks
