Purpose of Assignment
This assignment is designed to allow the student an opportunity to complete an
in-depth analysis of a nursing theory/model. Analysis of the theory coupled with
application to a clinical scenario is intended to demonstrate the relevance of nursing
theories to professional practice.
Student Approach to Assignment
This Theoretical Application paper is focused on summarizing a theoretical
nurse’s nursing theory. In my case, the paper was centered on Nola Pender’s Health
Promotion Model. Along with the summary, an analysis on the benefits vs. limitations of
her theory, as well as her relevance in current nursing research was discussed. An
example of a clinical situation related to Pender’s theory, as well as how her theory has
affected my own nursing theory was summarized.
Reason for Inclusion of this Assignment in the Portfolio

§ Pender’s theoretical application paper has highlighted Nola
Pender’s Health Promotion model and its influence in relevant,
current nursing research. This paper gives specific examples of
how Pender’s nursing theory has helped me develop my own
professional practice, as well has affecting my approach towards
my patients. I now have incorporated a greater amount of
educational focus and have incorporated her “assumptions” into my
daily interactions.
