Laboratory Activity 1. VISCOSITY OF LIQUIDS
INSTRUCTIONS: Determine the viscosity of some liquids ( EXPERIMENT )
CHEMISTRY
Guide Questions:
1.) Which among the liquids has the highest viscosity? Why?
• Liquid soap has the highest viscosity because it contains long-chain molecules that create
strong intermolecular forces, making it resistant to flow.
2.) Which among the liquids has the lowest viscosity? Why?
• Acetone has the lowest viscosity because it has weak dipole-dipole and dispersion forces,
allowing it to flow more easily.
Conclusion:
The viscosity of a liquid depends on the strength of its intermolecular forces. Liquids with
stronger forces (like hydrogen bonding in water and alcohol or large molecular structures in oil
and soap) have higher viscosity. On the other hand, liquids with weaker forces (like acetone)
have lower viscosity, allowing them to flow more easily
