Department: Mechanical Engineering Report. Institution: Kenya School of TVET. Prepared by: Equation Wise. Date: 30/01/2026. SUMMARY. Plant workshop maintenance report outlines the current condition of workshop facilities and equipment , it identifies maintenance activities carried out , highlights observed challenges and provides recommendations for improving reliability , safety and efficiency. INTRODUCTION. A plant workshop consists machines , tools , and supporting infrastructure used for training and production activities. This report documents routine and preventive maintenance practices implemented in the workshop and evaluates their effectiveness. Plant workshop is equiped with , ๏ Lathe machines. ๏ Milling machines. ๏ Drilling machines. ๏ Grinding machines. ๏ Welding equipment. ๏ Air compressors. ๏ Handtools and measuring instruments. ๏ (^) Electrical installations and lighting. ๏ Water supply and drainage systems. ๏ Safety equpment. MAINTENANCE POLICY AND STRATEGY. The workshop maintenace policy is baised on : ๏ Routine maintenance - daily and weekly checks. ๏ Preventive maintenance - planned inspection and servicing. ๏ Corrective maintenance - repairs performed after detection of faults and failures. ROUTINE MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES. ๏ Cleaning of machine after use.
๏ Removal of metal chips and dust. ๏ Visual inspections for loose bolts , oils leaks and abnormal noise. ๏ Lubrication of moving parts. ๏ Check belts tension and alignment. ๏ Inspection of electrical cables and switches. ๏ Testing of safety devices and emergency stops. PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES. ๏ Scheduled servicing of machines according to manufacturer guidelines. ๏ Replacement of worn-out parts. ๏ Calibration of measuring instruments. ๏ Inspection and servicing of air compressors and welding equipment. ๏ Checking and refilling lubricants and coolants. OBSERVATIONS AND FINDINGS. ๏ Some machines showed signs of wear due to prolonged use. ๏ Inadequate lubrication in a few machines. ๏ Minor electrical faults such as loose connections. ๏ Insufficient labelling and documentations on some equipment. ๏ Safety equipment present but not regularly inspected. CHALLENGES ENCOUNTERED. ๏ Limited maintenace budget. ๏ Shortage of spare parts. ๏ High frequency of machines usage. ๏ Limited time allocated for preventive maintenance. CONCLUSION. Proper maintenance of the plant workshop is vital for safe operation , effective tarining and long term sustainability of equipment. Structured routine and preventive maintenance plan , the workshop minimise breakdown , enhance safety , monitoring and improve overall productivity.
