Emily had done many things to get ready for her big
performance in the play “Alice in Wonderland.” First, in a
used clothing store, she had found the perfect costume to
wear. Her dress looked just like the one in the book
everyone had been reading. Second, she had practiced and
memorized all her lines. She had worked at reading and
rereading and practiced with all the other actors. She knew
exactly what would happen at any moment during the play.
As you can see, by finding a great costume, memorizing her
lines, and rehearsing, Emily had ensured that she would do
a great job in her play.

Usually, female kangaroos give birth to one joey at a
time. Newborns weigh as little as 0.03 ounces at birth. After
birth, the joey crawls into its mother’s pouch, where it will
nurse and continue to grow and develop. Red kangaroo
joeys do not leave the pouch for good until they are more
than eight months old.

Paraphrase:
Normally, female kangaroos bring forth each joey in
turn. Infants weigh as meager as 0.03 ounces upon entering
the world. After birth, the joey creeps into its mom's pocket,
where it will attendant and proceed to develop constantly.
Red kangaroo joeys don't leave the pocket for good until
they are over eight months old.
