Elements of Communication:

1. Speaker- who delivers the message.

2. Message- Is what needs to be delivered.

3. Listener– Receives the message.

4. Channel– Means by which the message is sent.

5. Response– The only way the speaker knows that the

message has been received.

6. Feedback– The result of monitoring by the speaker

of the listener’s response.

  1. Noise– Any barrier to communication.
  2. Communication Situation- When & where of communication event.

Noises can be Psychological, Physical, & Physiological.

Lesson 4: Explaining the Dimensions of Communication For Pairs of Dimensions:

1. Verbal/Nonverbal Dimensions- encompass the use of
language, the words chosen, and the facial expressions, gestures,
& bodily movement used. Verbal & Nonverbal dimensions must
be used together to clearly impart the message.
2. Oral/Written dimensions- Spoken com & the transcription of
thoughts & ideas.
3. Formal/Informal dimensions- Speak of the factors that may or
may not highlight traditional & conventional com.
4. Intentional/Unintentional dimensions- Rely on the fact that
messages always have a purpose.
