INTRODUCTION

You continue to work for a software training company that produces courses and topic presentations to established companies and, importantly, to new start-ups. You have planned a professional development event targeted at internal employees and you are now tasked with delivering one of thebreakout events Design One of your two-hour workshops is based on ‘team dynamics’ and you are required to create a presentation as part of this session. The presentation must give delegates the opportunity to take part in some of the planned activities and therefor interactive you need to provide links to suitable sites and an activity sheet to delegates so that they can make choices on team-building tasks they could complete and which would be of most benefit to them Having completed the Training Event Management project, you now need to reflect on your experience and consider your Continuous Professional Development (CPD) needs. LO4: EXAMINE THE NEED FOR CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CPD) AND ITS ROLE WITHIN THE WORKPLACE AND FOR HIGHER LEVEL LEARNING I. Discuss the importance of cpd and its contribution to own learning 1.Definition of CPD Figure 1. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. It refers to the process of tracking and documenting the skills, knowledge and experience that you gain both formally and informally as you work, beyond any initial training. It’s a record of what you experience, learn and then apply. The term is generally used to mean a physical folder or portfolio documenting your development as a professional. Some organizations use it to mean a training or development plan, which I would argue is not strictly accurate. This article is about Continuing Professional Development as a process of recording and reflecting on learning and development. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) takes a multi-dimensional approach to long- term career development. Any learning activities undertaken by professionals for the purpose of developing new skills and enhancing their current capabilities represent elements of CPD

Continuing professional development (CPD) involves maintaining and enhancing the knowledge, skills and experience related to your professional activities following completion of your formal training. Just as importantly, it involves the development of those personal qualities that are required for carrying out professional and technical duties during a professional’s life. Both technical and non-technical skills need to be developed. 2.Why CPD importance The CPD process helps you manage your own development on an ongoing basis. Its function is to help you record, review and reflect on what you learn. It’s not a tick-box document recording the training you have completed. It’s broader than that. CPD ensures your capabilities keep pace with the current standards of others in the same field. CPD ensures that you maintain and enhance the knowledge and skills you need to deliver a professional service to your customers, clients and the community. CPD ensures that you and your knowledge stay relevant and up to date. You are more aware of the changing trends and directions in your profession. The pace of change is probably faster than it’s ever been and this is a feature of the new normal that we live and work in. If you stand still you will left behind, as the currency of your knowledge and skills becomes out-dated CPD helps you continue to make a meaningful contribution to your team. You become more effective in the workplace. This assists you to advance in your career and move into new positions where you can lead, manage, influence, coach and mentor others. CPD helps you to stay interested and interesting. Experience is a great teacher, but it does mean that we tend to do what we have done before. Focused CPD opens you up to new possibilities, new knowledge and new skill areas. CPD can deliver a deeper understanding of what it means to be a professional, along with a greater appreciation of the implications and impacts of your work. CPD helps advance the body of knowledge and technology within your profession. CPD can lead to increased public confidence in individual professionals and their profession as a whole. Depending on the profession – CPD contributes to improved protection and quality of life, the environment, sustainability, property and the economy. This particularly applies to high risk areas, or specialised practice areas which often prove impractical to monitor on a case by case basis. 3.CDP contribution to own learning CPD is the way that I keep growing. CPD will help us to easily solve day-to-day problems, prepare everything for the future and achieve great achievements. CPD has helped me perfect my skills and personal intelligence and fill knowledge gaps, improving my ability to regularly learn and improve. I learned faster as I got used to the process and will become a better independent learner. And finally, CPD has fostered my independence by self-directed the requirement to consciously participate in learning activities.

V. Evaluate a range of evidence criteria that is used as a measure for effective

CPD.

Taking the time to evaluate your CPD is important. It helps you to better understand which CPD activities are beneficial and actually lead to improved teacher practice and which ones don’t, ensuring you feel confident in the opportunities you offer your staff. Programmers and activities need to be assessed over-time and not in isolation. Evaluating CPD should move beyond simple feedback questionnaires that are often collected as evidence of staff attendance. While these provide a perception at a point in time, what you’ll need to know is what’s happened as a result of the programmers or activities a number of months later. Below are the criteria given for the evaluation : The planning of CPD activities and the evaluation of their impact should be key to performance management. The evaluation of CPD should concentrate on what teachers leam, how they use what they've learnt and the effect on the learning of their students. Measuring the impact of CPD should be a collaborative process between the teacher and any leadership staff involved in performance management, coaching or mentoring How CPD is evaluated, as well as the success criteria for evaluation, should be agreed on by both the teacher and leadership staff. A timeline for evaluating outcomes should be established, which takes into account the fact that some outcomes, such as student performance, may take longer to become evident than others. The impact of CPD should be evaluated at short, medium and long term. Measuring the impact of a CPD activity should take into account the cost of the activity and evaluate whether the outcome of the activity has been value for money. The processes for measuring the impact of CPD activities should be regularly reviewed to ensure they are effective.
