Belbin Team Roles
Members of a thought-oriented team are critical thinkers. They may
have specialized knowledge or skills, present new ideas or a new
perspective, examine ideas by evaluating the pros and drawbacks, or
offer fresh ideas or perhaps a different view.
Teammates who are goal-oriented try to complete tasks. They can
indeed be trusted on to finish a task, meet a deadline, and regard a
challenge as an exciting opportunity.
People-oriented teammates execute tasks through connecting and
creating relationships. They may well be outstanding listeners and
give assistance to other team members in order to strengthen social
bonds.
Individuals may have characteristics that allow them to play multiple
roles, which indicates you may assemble a well-balanced team from
any number of people as far as all of the positions are represented.
You may use the Belbin model to assist your team become more fair
and to uncover chances for growth based on the team position. You
may increase your contributions to a team by growing your talents
and controlling your shortcomings once you understand your role
within it.
Belbin's approach may be used by leaders and managers to develop
balanced teams with a complimentary mix of personalities and
talents to fulfill the various tasks indicated above. In smaller teams,
each member may need to take on many duties in order for the
team to get the best outcomes. Take inventory of the people on your
team, their personalities and abilities. What can each team member
offer to the table, and what positions could be ideal for them.
