The team of individuals will be responsible for interacting with IBM engineers and subject matter experts to formulate and document requirements, architect a solution, and create a prototype utilizing a variety of IBM enterprise products such as Websphere, DB2, Rational and Lotus. A robust web based portlet solution should include SOA like capabilities that interact with both relational and cubed (OLAP) data sets. Individuals will receive valuable experience through participating in a complex executive sponsored project in a large corporate environment, getting hands-on experience with enterprise software, working with a diverse set of skilled individuals including personnel from IBM Research and applying theoretical concepts into solutions to solve real world problems. Experience Required : CS, MIS, CE, or IT Strong server-side Java programming Use of the Eclipse IDE Fundamental relational database knowledge Familiarity with Unix / Linux Length of Project : 4-6 months From: Edward D Doan Date: Mon, 25 Aug 2008 17:59:08 - Ryan,
This looks really good. My only concern would be the scope of the project, but that can always be adjusted based on the time/skill level of the student team. My personal suggestion is for the project to be implemented as a web app driven by IBM WebSphere Application Server Community Edition + IBM DB2 Express-C. These tools are lighter- weight and simpler than the enterprise-strength versions. Also, we may want to work with sample data rather than any actual customer data if we want to avoid having to set up VPN accounts or signing NDA's. Let me introduce you to our "consulting principals" -- Eleanor Jordan and Sharon Dunn. They are key faculty members at UT McCombs Business School's MIS program and own the MIS 374 course. I would be happy to set up a conference call or meeting to help sync us on stakeholder expectations, if they agree this is the right kind of project for the MIS students to tackle. Let me know when you want to talk. /**************************************************
