Propagation: division
Definition: Propagation division is a method where a plant which has
matured is separated and placed into smaller sections to grow into new,
genetically identical plants.
Example: bulbous plants can produce
bulbils (small bulbs) which can be used
by separating the bulbils from the main
bulb and replanting them.
Proper condition:
Timing: Avoid dividing plants during
extreme temperatures. Dividing plants
when they are actively growing allows for quicker root establishment.
Environmental conditions: moist soil, warm roots, adequate sunlight, and
good air circulation are the best conditions for the division of plants.
Health: when choosing a plant, pick one that is healthy and well
established with multiple shoots and crowns.
Tools
Cutting tools
(preferably a small sharp
knife, or punning shears)
Small containers or
pots
Potting mix
Step by step
First find a suitable plant
Then cut the plants in half using a small knife or punning shears
and make sure to keep the roots intact
After you have separated the plant, place them in two different pots
