Frequency - The number of times a score occurs. Symbolized by "f" (italicized) Distribution - The general name for any organized set of data N - The sample size indicating the number of score Simple Frequency Distribution - Shows the number of times each score occurs in a set of data Bar graph - Used for nominal and ordinal data Histogram - From interval and ratio data Normal Distribution - A symmetrical curve The Tails of a Normal Distribution - The far left and right portions containing low-frequency extreme scores. Asymptotic Tails -
The tails come closer and closer to the x axis but they never touch. Important because that means there is an infinitely that a score can be obtained that is very extreme Negatively Skewed - Contains extreme low scores that have low frequency, but does not contain low frequency extreme high scores. i.e. when the tail slopes toward zero Positively Skewed - Contains extreme high scores that have a low frequency but does not contain low frequency extreme low scores i.e. when the tail slopes away from zero Bimodal - A symmetrical distribution containing two distinct humps Rectangular Distribution - A symmetrical distribution shaped like a rectangle Relative Frequency - The proportion of time the score occurs. f/N Cumulative Frequency - The frequency of all the scores at or below a particular score Percentile - The percent of all scores in the data that are at or below the score (cf/N)(100) Grouped Distributions -
