OPEN AND CLOSED QUESTIONS

OPEN QUESTIONS

  • (^) Open Questions start with; What, where,

when, why, how and which.

This is used to gather information. The user is

then able to describe the situation.

  • For example in the quote: What messages

are displayed on your screen?

FUNNEL QUESTIONS

  • (^) This type of question involves asking more details at each level,

most of time is used by detectives to take a statement from a

witness.

When using funnel questioning, start with closed questions.

PROBING QUESTIONS

Asking probing questions is about finding more detail.

Sometimes it is like asking for an example to help you understand a

statement properly.

An effective way of probing is using the 5 why’s.

LEADING QUESTIONS

  • (^) Leading question is a question which subtly prompts the respondent the

answer in a particular way , basically purpose of the leading question is to

make someone to think in a certain way.

Rhetorical Questions are questions that do not have an answe r for

example " isn't John's design work so creative?". People use

Rhetorical questions because they are engaging for the lister.
