Sensor is an element which produces signal in response to the quantity being measured (measurand). Transducer, on the other hand, may pertain to an element when subjected to some physical change experiences a related change an element which converts a specified measurand into a usable output by using transduction principle. an element that converts a signal from one form of energy to another form
The signal produced by sensor/transducer are analog in form and are not appropriate if the signal processing is to be done digitally. In this case, an Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) is used. The output of an ADC is digital. This digital signal will undergo some digital processing and the result of the process will remain to be digital. In some cases a Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) is needed so that the processed information may be understood by human. Many sensors/transducers produce very low level signals ( milli volts). The low level signal must be amplified to be useful. Operational Amplifiers are widely used for amplification of low level input signals.
