Dart Boards: a) Boards shall be of Nodor Supawire, Nodor Supamatch, or better quality. Free boards obtained from vendors are no longer acceptable. b) Boards shall be standard 18” bristle board with standard 1-20 clock pattern. c) Boards shall be new and replaced every calendar year, preferably at beginning of a Spring or Fall season. d) To maximize useable life of board, wires may be rotated to ensure equal wear on each part of part. e) Boards shall be mounted with center of bull shall be 5’8” above floor. Use of a back board is preferred, but not required. f) No board shall be mounted with center of bull closer than 4’0” of any adjacent board’s center (measured laterally).
Toe Line: a) Toe lines must be centered on board and a distance of 7’ 9 ¼” from a plumb line dropped from the bull (9’7 3/8” diagonal from bull). This distance shall be measured from very front of toe line (edge closest to board), not any line or markings on the toe line. b) Manufactured toe lines are preferred, but not required. Duct Tape, or equivalent is acceptable. c) Lines must be permanently attached to the floor (not on a removable piece of carpeting or mat). d) Lines drawn on floor, temporary nor permanent, are not permitted. e) Flooring under the toe line shall be continuous and of equal height. Uneven flooring or obstruction of toe line is not acceptable.
Lighting: a) Dedicated lighting shall be utilized to eliminate, or minimize, any shadows generated during match play. b) Generally, two track-type light fixtures aiming from either side of board are appropriate. (The lighted rings made to surround the dart board (e.g. “The CircumLuminator) are also acceptable.) c) Lighting shall be installed in such a manner to not interfere with or impede the flight of darts and/or players view of board.
Scoreboards: a) Dedicated scoring boards shall be mounted within 5 feet of the dartboard, preferably on the same wall as the dartboard. b) Dry-erase type whiteboards are preferred, but not required. Chalk-type boards are acceptable providing that chalk holders are available at board. c) Each scoreboard shall have working marker, or appropriate writing implement, and dedicated eraser. Manufactured erasers are preferred, but not required. Napkins or towel are acceptable.
Fans or other obstructions: a) Ceiling mounted fans mounted above dart area are acceptable, but shall have the ability to slow speed or turn off fan during play. b) Any airflow in dart area that is directly affecting flight of darts is not acceptable and shall be removed at player’s request. c) Bands/Karaoke (or similar events deemed as a disturbance) shall not begin until after match play is completed.
Seating: a) Seating for all team members, including visiting team (about 12 seats suggested), shall be provided within the darting area. View of both playing boards shall be unobstructed from seating area
All board setups currently in RDL as of July, 2008 shall be grandfathered in as approved for a limited time. Refer to RDL Rules and Regulations (Home Bar Responsibilities section) for details.
Refer to the following diagram for example approved setup.
Note regarding lighting – Boards that are mounted inside a lighted ring (e.g. “The CircumLuminator”) are acceptable as this form of lighting has been approved by the ADO. Note regarding distance between boards – The RDL requires a MINIMUM of 4 feet between adjacent boards, however, the preference is to follow the ADO recommended distance of 5 feet between the bullseye of adjacent boards, especially with new setups.
