ECE 3110: Engineering Electronics II Fall 2008
Assignment #10
Topics: Rectifiers and Oscillators
Due Date: Nov. 26, 2008
Problem 1: (Section 13.9) Consider the rectifier circuit shown in Fig. 1, where it
is assumed that the opamp has infinite gain.
(a) What is the gain of this circuit (Vout /Vin) for Vin >0 V? [3]
(b) What is the gain of this circuit (Vout /Vin) for Vin <0 V? [0]
(c) What is the average output voltage for an input of Vin = 1 sin(ωt) V?
[0.955 V ]
Problem 2: (Section 13.9) Sedra and Smith: Chapter 13, problem 13.48. [R1=
100 k,R2= 200 kΩ]
Problem 3: (Section 13.9) Sedra and Smith: Chapter 13, problem 13.50.
Problem 4: (Section 13.4) Consider the bistable circuit shown in Fig. 13.20(a) of
the text, where the negative terminal of the opamp has been disconnected from
ground and connected to a reference voltage VR= 2 V. Assume that the opamp
saturation levels are ±5 V, R1= 10 kΩ, and R2= 20 kΩ.
(a) What is the low threshold voltage, VT L? [-1 V ]
(b) What is the high threshold voltage, VT H ? [4 V ]
(c) Find new values of R2and VRthat result in threshold voltages of VTL = 0
V and VT H = 0.5 V. [R2= 200 k,VR= 47.6 mV ]
